On Saturday, December 4, boutiques, eateries and businesses along Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue will offer entertainment, food, drink, discounts, live entertainment and more. Two trolleys filled with elves and musicians will ride up and down the corridor offering free rides! Four Roses Bourbon will host a “First-Time Holiday Cocktail Contest” in the restaurants and bars, and BBC beer specials will be served up and down the route. Once again, Bardstown Road Aglow will feature musicians singing, bagpipers booming and shops aglowing. SPOTLIGHT:  NUTCRACKER IN A NUTSHELL
 
Join Clara and the Nutcracker Prince as they battle the Mouse King then travel to The Land of the Sweets in a holiday classic designed to delight audiences of all ages. “Nutcracker in a Nutshell,” a shorter, family-friendly version of the traditional ballet, is being performed by MAGIC Dance Company, a group of pre-professional dancers ranging in age from 6 to 18.  In its third consecutive year at the Louisville Palace Theater, the performance features marching soldiers battling mischievous mice, sparkling skaters, Russian tumbling and the beautiful Sugarplum Fairy. The Shop-With-A-Cop program provides clothing, food and gifts to disadvantaged children. On Saturday, December 11, the LMPD 5th Division will pair 15 needy children from area elementary schools with police officers. The officers will pick the children up at their homes and treat them to breakfast at McDonald’s before taking them on a shopping spree at the Wal-Mart on Bashford Manor Lane. SPOTLIGHT: BOAR’S HEAD FESTIVAL

St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2000 Douglas Blvd., presents its annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival, December 29-31. The event portrays the spirit of Christmas in a medieval setting with elaborate costumes, festive music by choir, organ and brass, and elegant candlelight dinners. Over 3,000 guests are expected.
