On Thursday evening, June 23, the Louisville chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists presented its 2011 Metro Louisville Journalism Awards at Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center. The Highlander Neighborhood Monthly took home 5 out of the 26 awards handed out in the Non-Metro Community Newspapers Division.
Michael L. Jones won first place in Minority/Women’s Affairs Reporting for his story “A Family Affair” (August 2010). Jones also won second place under Enterprise Reporting for “Hogan’s Fountain Pavilion, Revisited” (July 2010). In Feature Writing, Jonathan Ashley won first place for “Heaven, Backwards” (November 2010), while Cindy Lamb took home second place for “Bob Edwards, Louisville’s Odds-on Favorite” (May 2010). Brian Bohannon won third place in Feature Photography for “Heaven, Backwards” (November 2010).
