On September 25 and 26, Bellarmine University will celebrate all things Celtic with the Louisville Irish Fest. The event will feature music and dancing, musical group Needfire, an Irish comic play, food and retail vendors, an exhibition of Irish dog breeds, and tons of activities for children. Sunday also includes a special mass at Bellarmine’s chapel, Our Lady of the Woods. Bring a blanket and enjoy yourselves. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and seniors. SPOTLIGHT: SLICE OF THE HIGHLANDS
The Original Highlands Neighborhood Association (OHNA) has come up with a new twist for its Third Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser. The OHNA and Gilda’s Club Louisville will present a battle royale among local pizzerias. So far, “Slice of the Highlands” competitors include Papalino’s NY Pizzeria, Tony BoomBozz Pizza, Spinelli’s, Bearno’s and ZA’s.  Awards will be given for People’s Choice as well as Critics Choice. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. The entrance fee includes pizza from all the competitors, beer and wine tastings, dessert, live music and the right to vote for your favorite pizza. SPOTLIGHT:  THE IDEA FESTIVAL 2010
The annual Idea Festival celebrates imagination, new perspectives and transformational ideas.  This year’s festival takes place Sept. 29-Oct. 2. It will include innovative thinkers from a number of fields. Highlights include: novelist Sapphire, author of “Push,” the basis for the Academy-Award nominated movie “Precious”; a live broadcast of the BBC’s “World Have Your Say”; and a special performance by innovative R&B singer Janelle Monae at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.
