Family Fun Night: Dinner Out on Bardstown Road
Friday, March 12
Another community Family Fun Night will be hosted by Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 12, beginning at 6 p.m. The church is located at 1722 Bardstown Road. BoomBozz Restaurant will cater the meal, which will be followed by homemade desserts.
Rev. Chris Lieberman says, “It’s our gift to families with busy lives to provide a nutritious meal that none of the participants has to plan, prepare or clean up. A nice meal on a night out.”
Following the catered dinner, there will be organized, collaborative, trust-building games and activities that involve people of all ages. The March 12 gathering will feature a few basketball-themed events – without the pressure of March Madness. “You can eat, play and still get home in time to put the kids in bed or tune in the Big East Tournament on TV.”
The meal and the fun are free to families in the community. Reservations are required and may be made at the church’s Web site, www.brpres.org, or by calling the church office at (502) 451-8305 to arrange for tickets.
The next Family Fun Night is scheduled for Friday, April 16. Participating restaurants include BoomBozz, Impellizzeri’s, Mark’s Feed Store and Qdoba.
37th Annual Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick’s Parade
Saturday, March 13
Over 100 units are expected again for this year’s 37th Annual Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday, March 13, at 3 p.m. Often called “the people’s parade,” everyone is invited to join the mix of decorated vehicles and groups along the Baxter/Bardstown Road route. The 2010 theme is “Hooley in the Highlands.”
The AOH sponsors several events in March to kick off the St. Patrick celebrations. A “Wearin’ O’ the Green” party, featuring music by Brigid Kaelin, will be held at Masterson’s on Saturday, March 6. And on Thursday, March 11, the “Blessing of the Beer” will be held at O’Shea’s Irish Pub, with live music and a special menu of Irish dishes.
The AOH has named Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, a global animal health company and sponsor of the FEI World Equestrian Games this fall, as the 2010 Irish Person of the Year. He will be honored at a special noon mass at St. Louis Bertrand Church on parade day.
A native of Ireland, Lyons innovated technologies that have made his Kentucky company a world leader in the animal health industry, employing 1,900 people with a presence in 120 countries. Recognized as one of the top 15 Irish-American life scientists of the year by Biolink USA-Ireland, he is the main reason the equestrian games are being held outside of Europe for the first time, bringing a potential economic impact of nearly $100 million to Kentucky.
